The victim’s sister registered a complaint at Delhi Gate police station, following which a case was registered and an investigation was initiated.
The victim, Jabbar, had a dispute with some people at a juice stall around 11 pm on Thursday after which five of them beat him up badly, Assistant Superintendent of Police, City, Mukesh Chandra Mishra said.
The FIR was registered at Prem Nagar police station on Wednesday based on directives of ADG Avinash Chandra, they said.
According to the police, a woman lodged a complaint stating her father, with whom she holds a joint bank account, received an SMS on March 3 asking for updation of KYC details.
Based on the statement given by the woman, the accused was arrested on Saturday and produced before the court of the CJM, Amingaon, which forwarded him to jail custody.
