Patna, June 27: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested two central GST officials red handed for accepting Rs 2.5 lakh as bribe from RJD MLC Subodh Kumar to extend favour in correcting records of taxes to be paid by him for his flour mill.
Assistant Commissioner Chandan Prakash Pandey, a 2016 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer and Superintendent Mohammed Sahabuddin were arrested on charges of accepting bribe.
RJD MLC Subodh Kumar, lodged a complaint that the assistant commissioner demanded Rs 8 lakh as bribe to settle issue related to a flour mill which was attributed in name of his wife and sister-in-law. Later, the accused reduced the amount to Rs 2.5 lakh after the complainant expressed inability to pay.
But subsequently Rai informed the CBI which registered case against officials. Acting on the compalaint, CBI officials laid a trap and arrested Pandey from his office located at Buddha Marg.
Subodh Rai produced conversation between the assistant commissioner and him as evidence based on payment details. The CBI’s anti-corruption wing charged the duo under section of Prevention of Corruption Act and Criminal conspiracy. The arrested officers would be produced before a CBI court on Friday.
