CBSE Digital Verification 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to change how it checks Class 12 board exam papers. From now on, students will not need to apply for post result verification of marks. This change is happening because CBSE is moving to a fully digital checking system called On Screen Marking which is also known as OSM.

Under the new system the answer sheets will be checked on computers instead of in the old paper method. The class 10 answer sheets will still be checked in the physical way for now.

Examination Controller Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj explained the reason behind this change. He said, “Post-result verification of marks will no longer be required and there will be a reduced manpower requirement for verification as there would be no scope for any totalling errors,”

He also said, “In the older system, students would seek verification to check for discrepancies in the whole numbers or missing numbers. In the new scheme of digital evaluation, such discrepancies would be eliminated at the outset,”

He said, “Before taking a final call, we analysed lessons from past experiences, redesigned systems, carried out dry runs, identified glitches, took stakeholder feedback, conducted global testing and reinforced the safety and security protocols,”

Dr Bhardwaj said, “The option for digital marking is not only environmentally sustainable but will ensure faster evaluation with wider teacher participation. Teachers can remain in their schools and continue their regular duties,”

Live Webcast Explains Board Exam Changes

To help schools understand the new rules CBSE held a live webcast on 13 February 2026 at around 11 AM IST. The session lasted for about two hours. It was streamed on CBSE’s official YouTube channel. Schools were told to arrange group viewing under the principal’s supervision so teachers and staff could clearly understand the updates.

On Screen Marking system

The webcast mainly explained how the On Screen Marking system will work in the 2026 board exams. The exams are set to begin on February 17. Class 10 exams will start with Mathematics. Class 12 students will appear for subjects like Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship first.

Class 10 exams will end on March 11 and Class 12 exams will finish on April 10. More than 8,000 centres around the world will conduct the exams for nearly 46 lakh students.

During the webcast, Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj also spoke about safety concerns. He said bomb threat cases have reduced this year. On this issue he said, “We have requested the Ministry of Home to see what can be done… CBSE has not much role to play in it.” He also assured that students will be given equal compensatory time if they lose exam time due to such problems.
