The Congress Party recommended both the Centre and the West Bengal Governments to take the Darjeeling issue seriously and to come to a decision instead of going out. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left for Netherlands on Monday.

“The situation in Darjeeling is becoming worse day by day. The Central and the state Governments must take the Darjeeling matter seriously and must take a decision together by talking with the people there,” Congress leader Meem Afzal said.

Another Congress Party leader PL Punia said that Banerjee should be present in the state instead of going to Netherlands. “I believe that instead of going to Netherlands, she must be present in the state and think to solve the issue”.

On Monday, Mamata left for her Netherlands visit even though the strike called by GJM continued.  “Violent protests won’t be tolerated. My ministers are monitoring the situation,” she said before leaving.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh talked to Mamata over the law and order situation in Darjeeling on Saturday after the violent protest.
