Days after the Chandigarh stalking incident, Haryana BJP chief, Subhash Barala’s son Vikas and his friend Ashish Kumar, the two accused were sent to two-day police custody. Both were arrested on the charges of stalking and attempting to kidnap Varnika Kundu.  Kundu is the daughter of a senior-cadre Haryana IAS officer.

The accused were produced before the court on Thursday. They were interrogated for close to three hours at the police station. Following the interrogation, a non-bailable charges under Section 365 and 511 of the IPC were added to the FIR.

Both the accused were already booked for stalking, wrongful restraint, and driving under the influence of alcohol. As per Chandigarh administration’s report to Centre, Vikas refused to undergo medical test and give blood and urine samples.

Police arrested the two after examining CCTV footage. The officials said they have sufficient evidence against them. The two suspects were untraceable hours before they were required to show up at a police station.

After facing severe criticism over the probe into the stalking case, the Chandigarh police late on Monday night have said that they have obtained the CCTV footage that shows the “victim being chased by the accused”.

CCTV footage shows Varnika Kundu, the victim, driving on the road in a black car and the accused Vikas Barala can be seen chasing her in his black Tata Safari. The progress came hours after the police faced backlash earlier in the day after there were no CCTV footage of the occurrence.
