Meghna Gulzar directorial film Chhapaak starring Deepika Padukone released on January 10. It is no doubt one of the most anticipated movies of the year but even before the release of the film it faced ire from the people.
Going on the box office collection day 1 of the film, it has earned Rs 4.77 crore on Day 1. At the box office, the film faces competition from Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.
For those unaware, Deepika Padukone has visited JNU before her film release to stand in solidarity with the students against the attack which happened last Sunday. Many celebrities have condemned the act.
Her decision of visiting JNU before her film release has been called a PR stunt by many while many have lauded the actresses for her bold decision.
Many people decided to boycott her films especially Chhapaak because of her decision of visiting JNU and now that the box office collection of the movie also started on a low note, the netizens are trending #DeepikaPRBackfires

For the uninitiated, the movie is based on activist Laxmi Agarwal’s life after she was attacked with acid at the age of 15 by a 32-year-old man whose marriage proposal she had turned down.
