As temperatures plummet across Jharkhand, the district of Gumla recorded a bone-chilling 0.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The cold wave has prompted a ‘yellow’ alert for 13 districts, including Ranchi and Palamu, advising residents to stay prepared for the cold conditions until Friday morning.
The IMD bulletin highlights that Daltonganj and Khunti followed closely with minimum temperatures of 3.7 and 2.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. Bokaro and Simdega also noted low temperatures at 4.9 and 5.2 degrees Celsius. Ranchi, the state capital, registered 9 degrees Celsius.
With north-westerly to westerly winds affecting the region, Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Abhishek Anand, indicated no significant temperature changes are expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner, Manjunath Bhajantri, has issued an advisory urging precautions against cold-induced health issues.
