Coronavirus in Jharkhand: COVID-19 explosion in High Court, 15 including Registrar test positive

The coronavirus has reached Jharkhand High Court yet again. 15 people including the Registrar General, a judicial officer posted in the registry, a court employee, have been tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. The infected personnel are at home isolation.

There also have been reports of 11 policemen who were posted in the High Court, being found positive for the infection. The hearing of cases and other official works in the court has been postponed till August 14. The court proceedings are now likely to commence from August 17.

The court has been provided with online as well as offline petition filing facility from today. For this, a box was also put up near gate number three of the High Court. The offline cases will not be filed for two days.

According to Hindustan, the reports of the Registrar General was found positive at 6 PM. At the same time, the report of another judicial officer and some court employees were confirmed to be positive.

Earlier, 17 personnel of the High Court were found positive for coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand on Wednesday reported the highest number of COVID recoveries in a day so far as over 1500 patients were discharged from hospital after testing negative for the viral infection and showing no symptoms associated with it, health officials said.

As per a bulletin released by the National Health Mission (NHM) on Wednesday late evening, as many as 1567 patients, including 285 in Godda and 274 in Dhanbad, recovered in 24 hours, taking the COVID recovery rate in the state above 60%.

The coronavirus tally in Jharkhand crossed the 20,000 mark on Wednesday as 679 more people tested positive for the infection, the NHM bulletin stated. Ranchi, the worst-affected district in Jharkhand, has reported 3,799 cases of infection so far, while the tally in East Singhbhum stands at 3,182.

The government has so far collected swab samples of around 4.08 lakh people and tested around 4.02 lakh of them. On Wednesday, health workers collected swab samples of 7,138 people and tested 6,272 of them, stated the NHM bulletin.

Globally, the coronavirus case count has crossed 20.6 million, including nearly 750,000 deaths and more than 12.8 million recoveries (62%), data from Johns Hopkins University showed. India has one of the worst weekly growth rates in cases among high-fatality countries.
