India’s Covid-19 tally crosses the 26-lakh barrier on Monday, as per the latest health ministry numbers Deaths due to the coronavirus are now 50,921. Globally, the virus has taken over 7 lakh lives.
The recoveries surged to 19,19,842, pushing the recovery rate to 72.51 per cent, the data updated at 8am showed. The total number of tests for detection of COVID-19 also crossed the three crore mark in India, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research data. The death toll due to coronavirus infection climbed to 50,921 with 941 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours.
The case fatality rate has declined to 1.92 per cent. There are 6,76,900 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country. According to ICMR, a total of 3,00,41,400 samples have been tested up to August 16 with 7,31,697 samples being tested on Sunday.

Average growth rate of the viral infection also went up, according to the city civic body.
Kolkata airport to start operations of out bound flights to the six Covid hotspots of the country, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Nagpur, and Ahmedabad. The ban on in bound flights from these hotspots to, however, remain. The clearance comes in the wake of Airlines' decision to operate aircrafts arriving from non-COVID hotspots to Kolkata onward on to the said hotspots.
Pakistan registered 488 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 289,213. The death toll reached 6,175 with seven more fatalities reported overnight. While 269,087 coronavirus patients have recovered so far, 771 others are in critical condition, the ministry said.

Two security staff members of Sharad Pawar's Mumbai bungalow Silver Oak tested positive for coronavirus. These security staffers aren't from the personal convoy of Sharad Pawar and they did not come in touch with Pawar. However, other staffers of the bungalow will be tested now.
In the past 24 Hours, India reported a spike of 57,982 cases and 941 deaths, taking the total tally to 26,47,663. Of which, 6,76,900 active cases, 19,19,843 discharged/migrated & 50,921 deaths.
The cases in Chhattisgarh is taking total cases to 15,621 including 5,244 active cases, 10,235 discharges and 142 deaths.
Bihar's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1.04 lakh as 2,187 more people tested positive for the infection, while 22 fresh fatalities pushed its coronavirus death toll to 537, a health bulletin said. Patna district registered the highest number of fresh cases at 255, followed by Bhagalpur (177), Madhubani (127), Aurangabad (113) and Muzaffarpur and Saharsa (97 each), it said.
