Global Covid-19 cases surpass 52 million: Johns Hopkins

India’s Covid-19 tally crosses the 26-lakh barrier on Monday, as per the latest health ministry numbers Deaths due to the coronavirus are now 50,921. Globally, the virus has taken over 7 lakh lives.

The recoveries surged to 19,19,842, pushing the recovery rate to 72.51 per cent, the data updated at 8am showed. The total number of tests for detection of COVID-19 also crossed the three crore mark in India, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research data. The death toll due to coronavirus infection climbed to 50,921 with 941 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours.

The case fatality rate has declined to 1.92 per cent. There are 6,76,900 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country. According to ICMR, a total of 3,00,41,400 samples have been tested up to August 16 with 7,31,697 samples being tested on Sunday.

Pakistan Registers 488 New Cases, Tally Reaches 289,213

Pakistan registered 488 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 289,213. The death toll reached 6,175 with seven more fatalities reported overnight. While 269,087 coronavirus patients have recovered so far, 771 others are in critical condition, the ministry said.

Forty-three more people, including 14 security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, raising the state's total caseload to 2,701, a senior Health department official said on Monday.

Bihar's Covid-19 Caseload Rises to 1.04 Lakh; Death Toll Mounts to 537

Bihar's COVID-19 caseload rose to 1.04 lakh as 2,187 more people tested positive for the infection, while 22 fresh fatalities pushed its coronavirus death toll to 537, a health bulletin said. Patna district registered the highest number of fresh cases at 255, followed by Bhagalpur (177), Madhubani (127), Aurangabad (113) and Muzaffarpur and Saharsa (97 each), it said.
