Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday tested positive for Covid-19.  “On getting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors. I request those who came in contact with me in the last few days to get tested for coronavirus and isolate themselves,” Amit Shah tweeted.

Total coronavirus cases in India have crossed the 17-lakh mark, with a surge in cases from the southern states. Active cases in India are now 567,730, with over 10 lakh recoveries so far as per the latest data. Over 37,000 people have succumbed to the virus so far in India.

With 764 new deaths in 24 hours, the health ministry put total fatalities at 36,511, giving India the world’s fifth-highest death count behind the United States, Brazil, Britain and Mexico. This is the third consecutive day that more than 50,000 new cases have been reported in 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh on Friday surpassed Delhi to become the third worst coronavirus-hit state in the country. The state has added over 30,000 cases to its tally in the last three days, taking its total of those infected by the deadly virus to 1,40,933, including 1,349 fatalities.

Two-day-old baby dies of Covid-19 in Tripura

A two-day-old baby has died due to Covid-19 in Tripura, becoming the state's youngest coronavirus fatality, a Health Department official said.

The baby was born on Thursday at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and her swab sample was collected as her mother was a coronavirus patient.

"The two-day-old girl tested positive for coronavirus and succumbed to the disease at the hospital on Saturday," the official said.

Coronavirus recovery rate rises to 65.44%, case fatality rate drops further to 2.13%: Health Ministry

Recoveries among COVID-19 patients in India crossed the 11 lakh-mark on Sunday with over 51,000 patients recuperating in a 24-hour span, the highest recorded so far, pushing the recovery rate to 65.44per cent, the Union health ministry said on Sunday.
There are5,67,730 active cases of the coronavirus infection, which is the "actual caseload" of COVID-19 for the country presently and account for 32.43 per cent of the total cases, it said. All active cases are under medical supervision either in hospitals or in home isolation.

Israeli minister for Jerusalem tests positive

An Israeli Cabinet minister says he has tested positive for the coronavirus. Minister for Jerusalem and Heritage Rafi Peretz tweeted late Saturday that he received a positive result after being tested the previous day. He said he felt well. Peretz is the second Israeli minister to have been infected with the virus. Israel's former health minister, Yaakov Litzman, also contracted it and later recovered.

Hospital issues statement on death of UP minister Kamala Rani Varun

Mrs. Kamla Rani, Honourable Cabinet Minister, Government of UP, 62 -year-old female suffering with fever, cough and breathlessness was admitted to SGPGI after being detected COVID positive on 18.07.2020. She also had comorbidities in form of Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and hypothyroidism. She had bilateral pneumonia at admission and was shifted to ICU on the day of admission itself because of high oxygen requirement. Later she required non-invasive ventilation (NIV) with high oxygen requirements. On evaluation she had all the features of severe disease and she was given Inj. Remdesevir followed by Tocilizumab following which she had transient improvement in her clinical status for few days but again her condition started deteriorating with progressively increasing NIV and oxygen requirements. She was immediately transfused with convalescent plasma and steroid doses were hiked. Expert advice form Prof. Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS and Prof Ritesh Agarwal, PGIMER, Chandigarh was also taken. However, she had progressive severe disease unresponsive to maximal medical therapy. She was put on mechanical ventilator on 1/8/20 but she continued to deteriorate with hypotension and multiorgan dysfunction and succumbed to her illness on 2.8.20 morning at 9:30 am (Statement from SGPGI hospital)

Covid spread can be contained in US universities with students testing every 2 days: Study

The study conducted by researchers from the Yale School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital was published in JAMA Network Open, the Washington Post reported. The study used computer simulations to show how the virus might spread among a hypothetical group of 5,000 students. In the simulation, it was assumed 4,900 students are coronavirus free while 100 were assumed to be infected.

Global Covid-19 cases top 17.7mn: Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 17.5 million, while the deaths have increased to more than 683,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University. As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 17,791,377 and the fatalities rose to 683,988, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.The US accounted for the world's highest number of infections and fatalities at 4,620,182 and 154,360, respectively, according to the CSSE. Brazil came in the second place with 2,707,877 infections and 93,563 deaths.

Mexico coronavirus death toll exceeds 47,000

The coronavirus death toll in Mexico has surpassed 47,000 mark, the country's Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell has announced. "On August 1, 2020 there are 434,193 confirmed cases and 87,771 suspected cases of # COVID19. There have been 477,733 negative tests, 47,472 confirmed deaths and 284,847 people recovered," Lopez-Gatell said on Twitter on Saturday. On Friday, Mexico surpassed the United Kingdom in the coronavirus death toll count, becoming the country with the third-largest number of COVID-19 fatalities, after the United States and Brazil.

Mainland China reports 49 new coronavirus cases for August 1: Reuters

China reported 49 cases of the new coronavirus in the mainland for Aug. 1, up from 45 cases a day earlier, the health commission said on Sunday. Of the new infections, 30 were in the far western region of Xinjiang, three were in the northeastern province of Liaoning, and the remaining 16 were imported cases, according to a statement by the National Health Commission.

Indore reports 107 new Covid-19 cases, tally reaches 7,555, reports ANI

With 107 new COVID-19 positive cases reported on Saturday, Indore has recorded 7,555 COVID-19 cases so far. According to the official data, three deaths have been reported here, taking the total deaths to 315. Total 1,671 samples were tested in Indore on Saturday while 71 patients were discharged in the district. India reported 57,117 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday taking the country's coronavirus case count to 16,95,988.
