The total coronavirus cases in India have surged to 1,855,745 while the death toll has climbed to 38,938, as per the data released by the Health ministry. Worldwide, the pandemic has now taken nearly 7 lakh lives, with 18 million confirmed cases.
The country now has 18,55,745 infections of the deadly virus which has affected more than 18 million people globally.
With 803 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths count has climbed to 38,938, the government said. Several prominent public figures in the country, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, have tested positive for the virus, which has led to the death of a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government.
More than 12.3 lakh patients have recovered; the recovery rate stood at 66.30 per cent this morning. The positivity rate – percentage of patients who have tested positive for coronavirus – stood at 7.86 per cent.
