Coronavirus live updates: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tests COVID-19 positive, hospitalised

Authorities of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport Tuesday announced that flight operations at the airport will remain suspended on all the revised seven days of total lockdown in West Bengal this month starting from August 5.

Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan has been tested positive for coronavirus and is admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. After Home Minister Amit Shah, Pradhan is the second union minister in PM Modi’s cabinet to test positive for Covid-19 and both are getting treatment at the same hospital.

The total coronavirus cases in India have surged to 18,03,695, while the death toll has climbed to 38,135 with 771 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours, as per the data released by the Health ministry. Worldwide, the pandemic has now taken nearly 7 lakh lives, with 18 million confirmed cases.

Five most affected states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (4,50,196), Tamil Nadu (251,738), Andhra Pradesh (1,66,586), Karnataka (1,39,571) and Delhi (136,716).

Among leaders, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Karnataka chief minister Yediyurappa and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan have tested corona positive and have been hospitalised.

Positivity rate 8.89 percent in India: Health Ministry
