Coronavirus Outbreak: With 88,650 new cases, India's corona tally nears 60 lakh

Daily Covid-19 cases in India went past 49,000 as the total caseload crossed 14 lakh, capping the deadliest week of the pandemic so far, when total cases grew by 28% and the death toll jumped by 19%.

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have both crossed the 100,000-case mark, while Tamil Nadu’s Covid tally has risen to 220,716.

As many as 16,629,652 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While more than 10,217,573 have recovered, 655,873 have died so far. The US on Monday recorded 60,500 new cases and Brazil 23,467.

Chinese mainland reports 68 new confirmed Covid-19 cases

Chinese health authority said on Tuesday that it received reports of 68 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in the Chinese mainland on Monday, including four imported cases and 64 locally-transmitted ones. Fifty-seven of the 64 locally-transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, six in Liaoning Province, and one in Beijing Municipality, the National Health Commission said in its daily report, Xinhua reported.
