The Cricket World Cup 2022 is coming in October and it’s always been a much-anticipated event. Last year, the tournament was hosted by UAE and Oman and Australia was able to champion the season with New Zealand as the runner-up.

Australia will be the host of this year’s Cricket World Cup. The upcoming event is the eighth version of the tournament which has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was in August 2020 when the ICC announced that it will finally happen this year.

With Australia being this year’s host, will they have a big shot to win this year’s World Cup? Well, we can only wait and see. But before you read the bets you’ll place on the best cricket betting sites, let’s have a look at what this year’s tournament will be like.

Qualified Teams

Some teams automatically qualified for this year’s World Cup after reaching the Super 12 phase of the 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Australia, Pakistan, England, and New Zealand are sure to be playing this season. Meanwhile, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Namibia, and the West Indies will still have to go through the group stage this year.

In total, 16 teams will participate in this year’s World Cup and the remaining four spots came from the two Global qualifiers held in February and July earlier this year. The spots then went to Ireland, the UAE, the Netherlands, and Zimbabwe.

Schedule and Venues

This year’s T20 World Cup will run from October 16 to November 13, 2022, in different venues across Australia. All-in-all, there will be 45 matches which include the First Round, Super 12 phase, and the knock-out stage.

During the first round, the teams will be divided into two groups:

Group A:

  • Namibia
  • The Netherlands
  • Sri Lanka
  • UAE

Group B:

  • Ireland
  • Scotland
  • West Indies
  • Zimbabwe

The other teams not listed here are the eight teams that already qualified for this tournament based on their performance last year. Here are all the participants of the Super 12 phase which are  also divided into two groups:

Group 1:

  • Afghanistan
  • Australia
  • England
  • New Zealand
  • First Round’s Group A Winner (A1)
  • First Round’s Group B  Runner Up (B2)

Group 2:

  • Pakistan
  • Bangladesh
  • South Africa
  • India
  • First Round’s Group B Winner (B1)
  • First Round’s Group A Runner-up (A2)

After the Super 12 is the Knockout Stage which has the semi-finals and the Final round. The semi-finals are scheduled for November 9 and 10, 2022. 

Meanwhile, the Final is scheduled for November 13, 2022, and will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with the biggest stadium capacity among all the venues.

Adelaide Oval, Adelaide – 55,317 capacity

The Gabba, Brisbane – 42,000 capacity

Kardinia Park, Geelong – 26,000 capacity

Bellerive Oval, Hobart – 20,000 capacity

Perth Stadium, Perth – 61,266 capacity

Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney – 48,601 capacity

Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne – 100,024 capacity

How to Watch the Cricket World Cup 2022

For the Australian cricket fans, the matches will be broadcasted by Fox Cricket, which will then be hosted by Foxtel and Kayo Sports.

If you’re in the UK, Sky Sports is the official broadcast partner of the tournament. Indian cricket fans and viewers can then catch all the action live on Star Sports.
