Alia Bhatt recently starred in Abhishek Varman’s period drama ‘Kalank‘. In the film, Alia played the role of Roop who falls for Zafar (played by Varun Dhawan) . The multi-starrer love saga opened to a not so great start at the box office. The movie received mostly negative reviews, but Alia’s portrayal of Roop was loved by all. Interestingly, the latest buzz suggests that it was Deepika Padukone and not Alia who was first considered for the role of Roop.
As per a report in Pinkvilla, initially Deepika was offered to star opposite Varun Dhawan in ‘Kalank’. However, the leggy beauty turned down the film. And as they say, one actor’s loss is someone else’ gain. The role eventually went to Alia. With ‘Kalank’, it was the fourth time when Alia shared screen space with Varun.
While the reason behind Deepika turning down ‘Kalank’ has not been revealed, we wonder if her pairing with Varun would have grabbed more eyeballs.
Apart from Alia and Varun, ‘Kalank’ also starred Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles. The film went on to mint 21 crores on its first day at the box-office. However, the film’s collection dropped on its second day. Deepika Padukone is currently shooting for Chhapaak where she plays an acid attack victim. She will be seen romancing Vikrant Massey.
