Deputy CM and Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday announced a new merit cum scholarship scheme for the students in need. This fee waiver system has been launched only for a certain section of students pursuing higher studies in any state varsity of Delhi.

Under the scheme, students from a family with Card issued under the National Food Security Scheme will receive 100% fee waiver while students from families with income up to Rs 2.5 lakh per annum will get a 50% fee waiver. Those from families with income above Rs 2.5 lakh and not exceeding Rs 6 lakh per annum will receive 25 % fee waiver. The state has allocated a budget of Rs 10 crore for the academic year 2017-18. The scheme is expected to benefit about 20,000 – 25,000 students from poor and moderate income families.

Undergraduate students who want to avail the scholarship need to get a minimum of 60% marks (5% relaxation for students from SC/ST category). The scheme has been framed under the framework of The Delhi Higher Education Aid Trust.

Students pursuing courses in GGS Indraprastha University, Delhi Technological University, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Ambedkar University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for Women and Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University are eligible to apply for the scholarship. The scheme will also be extended to Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology once it becomes a state university of Delhi, informed a release.
