The Delhi High Court has granted bail to filmmaker Sanoj Kumar Mishra, who was arrested in March on rape charges, after the complainant submitted an affidavit admitting that the relationship between them was consensual and that the complaint was filed under external pressure.

Justice Girish Kathpalia, presiding over the case, ruled that there was no reason to continue depriving Mishra of his liberty and ordered his release on a bail bond of ₹10,000 with appropriate surety.

Mishra, who had earlier offered a role to actress Monalisa, was arrested by Delhi Police following allegations that later unraveled in court. During the hearing, Mishra’s legal team argued that the couple’s relationship was consensual and based in Mumbai, questioning the jurisdiction of Delhi Police over the case.

The complainant’s affidavit confirmed she had no objection to Mishra being granted bail. Additionally, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Nabi Karim police station informed the court that steps were underway to file an FIR against those allegedly responsible for fabricating the complaint, with the possibility of a supplementary chargesheet being considered.

Justice Kathpalia also highlighted the broader social damage caused by false accusations in sexual offence cases, emphasizing the need for strict action against such misuse of the legal process. Mishra’s earlier pleas for anticipatory and regular bail had been rejected, prompting the appeal to the high court.
