In a shocking indent, a 28-year-old man was allegedly thrashed to death by a mob on the suspicion of committing theft in Swaroop Nagar of northwest Delhi on Sunday night. His body was found lying in an open field at Vijay Chowk area near Swaroop Nagar with several injuries.

A local inquiry by the police showed that the incident had taken place last night. The officials have detained three persons in link with the case.

The case was lodged at the Swaroop Nagar police station on Monday morning.

The officials have learned that Shankar fell unconscious owing to the thrashing, thus two of the attackers took his body to the open field and dumped him there.

Notably, nobody from the mob told the police about the man’s death. The incident came to light at 7.15am on Monday after a passerby found the body and called the police.

“We have registered a case and are probing it from all angles,” said Milind Dumbre, deputy commissioner of police (northwest).

“The detained persons claim that they had caught him red-handed but we are still in the process of verifying their claims. We are also verifying his antecedents to find out if he was previously involved in any crime,” said the investigator.
