Delhi Metro Security Checks: Delhi Metro passengers should expect longer travel times between August 9 and August 16, 2026, due to increased security checks. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has told passengers that security checks at all stations will be stepped up before Independence Day. These extra checks will be handled by the Central Industrial Security Force, and they may cause longer lines at busy stations, especially in the morning and evening rush.
What DMRC told passengers
The DMRC has asked people to leave early, keep extra time in hand, and work with security staff during the screening process. In its advisory, the metro body said, “Security checks for passengers will be further intensified by CISF across Metro stations starting from August 9,”. The same advisory says passengers should plan their journey carefully because some stations may see long queues during peak hours until August 16.

Travel may still run as usual, but the entry process may take longer than normal. So people using the metro for work, school, shopping, or airport travel may need to add some extra buffer time to their day. The advisory also asks commuters to stay calm and cooperate with the security teams at the stations.
Police also step up the Security Plan
Delhi Police has also moved to tighten the overall security net ahead of the national celebration. Earlier this week, the DCP Central Delhi team held a coordination meeting with different stakeholders to strengthen the safety setup for Independence Day 2026. The meeting included people from the Eyes & Ears Scheme, Prahari volunteers, car dealers, cyber café owners, SIM card dealers, and hotel and guest house owners.

Senior officers including the Special CP (Law & Order), Zone-I, Joint CP (Central Range), and DCP, Central District were also present and stressed alertness, fast information sharing, and public support for a safe and peaceful Independence Day.
