Delhi Police Stops Routine Leave: Delhi Police has cancelled all routine leave for its personnel with immediate effect as authorities step up security arrangements amid the continuing paper leak protests at Jantar Mantar. According to an internal order issued by the Delhi Police Headquarters, all routine leave including casual leave and earned leave has been suspended until further orders. The directive states that leave will be granted only in genuine emergency cases after verification and approval by the competent authority.
The order has been circulated to all district Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) police unit and other senior formations, directing strict compliance. Police personnel have also been instructed not to attend training programmes or courses without prior approval from the Commissioner of Police.

The administrative move comes as protests linked to the alleged paper leak controversy continue at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Demonstrators have been demanding reforms in the examination system and accountability over alleged irregularities, while the protest movement has expanded into broader demands concerning the education sector.
“In view of the prevailing law and order situation, no routine leaves, i.e., casual, earned leaves, etc., would be granted to the police personnel, including GOs, with immediate effect and until further orders.
“Leaves shall be sanctioned only in genuine emergency cases after duly verified and approved by the sanctioning authority. All DCPs are requested to ensure meticulous compliance,” the order said.
It added, “No police personnel, including GOs, will attend/participate in any course without the approval of the commissioner of police until further orders.”
The national capital has stayed under heightened security now, since clashes earlier this week between protesters and police near Parliament Street and also Jantar Mantar. Authorities have kept a very heavy setup of security personnel in place, so that nothing else turns into something bigger and so public order doesn’t slip.

Emergency Leave Only
The police order makes it quite clear that only emergency leave requests will be taken up after a detailed check. Officials have also temporarily paused participation in training courses, a move meant to keep most personnel right there and ready for deployment while the law-and-order situation keeps unfolding.
These kinds of steps are usually used during stretches when policing demands go up, basically so the force can keep operational readiness across sensitive areas in the capital. Delhi Police has not said how long these leave restrictions will last. Officials, in the meantime, have noted that the order will remain until more instructions come in based on how the ongoing protests develop and on the wider security assessment in the national capital.
