Donald Trump Reveals Social Security Proposals: On Monday, former President Donald Trump discussed the specifics of a potential Social Security reform he might implement if re-elected.

Joe Kernen, a co-host of CNBC’s Squawk Box, inquired whether Trump had any views on modifications to entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security. Trump responded by saying, “There is a lot you can do in terms of entitlement, in terms of cutting, and terms of theft and the bad management of entitlements.”

He continued, “I know that they’re going to end up weakening Social Security because the country is weak.”

Trump continued, stating that he thinks inflation in the United States is nearing 50 percent and warning that the middle class has been severely impacted.

He claimed that despite playing a significant role in the nation’s development, policy has not been kind to the middle class.

The Context

Last week, in his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden pledged to safeguard Medicare and Social Security, stating, “Millionaires and billionaires contribute less to Social Security than the working people who built this country.” Furthermore, he stated, “It’s not fair.”

Biden further put forth the charge that Republicans harbor intentions to reduce Social Security and “provide additional tax cuts to the affluent.”

On March 9, following his address at a campaign event in Rome, Georgia, Donald Trump made an audience gesture. He discussed a potential Social Security proposal if reelected on Monday.

The Biden-Harris HQ account published a video of Trump’s remarks on X (previously Twitter) on Monday, in which it was claimed that he intended to reduce Social Security.

“Had you losers not shortened his response, you would have known that President Trump was discussing waste reduction,” the Trump War Room account replied via Twitter.

In addition, Biden commented on X, stating, “Not under my watch.”

The Acquired Knowledge

In 2023, Trump discussed Social Security and denied claims that he planned to cut the program.

In a town hall with Sean Hannity of Fox News in December of that year, he declared, “You do not have to touch Social Security.” There is a substantial amount of money available for use, exceeding any benefits obtained from reducing Social Security for senior citizens.

Newsweek contacted a Trump spokesperson via email, requesting a comment.

Social Security Works, a left-leaning pro-benefits lobbying group, issued a warning about Trump’s reelection in January.

According to the publication, he suggested cutting Social Security and Medicare every year he was president and attempted to defund Social Security.
