The body of an elderly couple that was found inside their flat in South Delhi’s East of Kailash area was murdered by Masseuse’s son, confirmed police.
Police have arrested the 17-year boy and his mother who have been working for the couple from past 7 years. The purpose of the murder is reported to be robbery.
77-year-old Virender Kumar Khaneja and 72-year-old Sarla Khaneja were found dead inside their locked house with no sign of forced entry. Initially, the police suspected it to be suicide as after the crime happened police didn’t found CCTV footage of the masseuse entering the house.
When the interrogation of the women happened then the police got to know about the teenager committed the murder.
Chinmoy Biswal (Deputy Commissioner of police) said, Rs 9 lakh in cash, jewellery, camera, wallet, the couple’s phones, and other valuables from his Sangam Vihar house,” “The masseuse told us that a few days ago; she had seen a lot of cash in the couple’s house and planned the robbery with her son. Her police verification was done by the apartment’s resident welfare association in 2017.”
Police told that the CCTV footage recovered from the apartment played an important role in probing the woman and his son’s role in the murder.
Police reported that the masseuse reached the couple’s flat for work around 11 am and deliberately left both doors to the flat open. Her son arrived around 11.30am and discreetly entered the flat. The teenager allegedly hid in one of the bedrooms, while his mother left the home around noon. In the afternoon when Virender Khaneja left his house for some work his wife locked the door and came inside. After half hour the boy went to her bedroom and tried to strangle her and demanded to know about the cash and valuable items when she told that her husband knows about the items he strangled her with a cloth and left her there.
On the return of Virender in the evening, when he found his wife didn’t respond to the bell, he used to spare key to go inside the house. It was then the boy caught him and asked about the cash, he panicked and gave the keys to the boy and then the juvenile strangled him to death.
Next morning the boy was caught on the CCTV camera with a trolly bag, Said police.
Couple’s autopsy report is awaited to know the exact cause of death.
