East-West Metro: Timetable Set for Commercial Services on Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Link

On Tuesday, East-West Metro Railway finalized the timetable for its commercial service on Howrah Maidan-Esplanade link.

Trains from Howrah Maidan and Esplanade will start at 7am and end at 9.45pm, according to a communication from the principal chief operations manager.

There will be a gap between two trains of 12 minutes and 15 minutes depending on the time of day. Trains will run at 15-minute intervals from 7am to 9am, 11am to 5pm, and 8pm to 9.45pm. Intervals will be 12 minutes from 9am to 11am and again from 5pm to 8pm.

A total of 130 trains will operate between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade every day from Monday to Saturday. There will be no commercial services on Sunday.

Each day, a train will perform a “pilot run” between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade, at a speed not exceeding 40kmph.

“The two rakes that will run on the stretch will be taken to the maintenance depot at Central Park for a weekly inspection,” said an official.

Metro services are now operating between Sealdah and Sector V along the East-West route.

There is currently work being done on a 2.5km stretch of the East-West Metro, between Esplanade and Sealdah.

People living across the river will be able to commute to the heart of Kolkata more easily with the commercial run between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade.
