Emoji translator an actual high paying job now

A dynamic language firm in London is hiring an emoji translator in what may be the world’s first official job of such kind.

Today Translations, claimed to have employed over 3,000 people fluent in more than 200 languages, has advertised for a specialist to help it to decode how emojis were translated across cultures, languages and generations, CNN tech reported.

The advertisement, posted online by the company two weeks ago, has already attracted 100 applicants from around the globe so far.

“Emoji translation is itself an emerging field – but one dominated to date by software, which is often insensitive to the many cultural differences in usage and interpretation,” the company said in its online advertisement.

“We are therefore seeking an exceptional individual to provide the human touch needed where translation software is inadequate – and to help us become the go-to translation experts in this area,” it said.

Applicants may have to sit a practical test of emoji knowledge and skills. The consulting job advertisement, which could become a full-time position, will offer a competitive remuneration for the successful candidates.

The emoji translator will be expected to provide translation work for the clients, file monthly report on emoji trends and developments, conduct cross-cultural research on difference in emoji usage and interpretation.

Emojis originated in Japan in the 1990s and have become popular since their international inclusion in social media and instant message applications.
