Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya also known as Sir MV was a great Indian engineer, scholar, statesman, and the 19th Diwan of Mysore, who served from 1912 to 1918. Google Doodle celebrates Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya’s 158th Birthday

Sir MV received India’s highest honor, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955. He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire (KCIE) by King George V for his contributions to the public good.

Every year in India on 15 September Engineering day is celebrated on his memory. He also served as chief engineer for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mandya district as well as chief engineer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad.

Two metro lines in India, one in Delhi on the Pink Line (Sir Vishveshwaraiah Moti Bagh) and another one Bengaluru on the Purple Line (Sir M. Visvesvaraya Station, Central College), have been named after him, in his honor.

Today Google pays honors to the great engineer on his 158th Birthday.
