Two days after self proclaimed monk and former RSS activist Swami Aseemanand and six others were acquitted in the 2007 Ajmer Dargah blast, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was still undecided on appealing against a trial court order.

Public Prosecutor Ashwini Kumar Sharma said there was enough evidence against Swami Aseemanand, including the confessional statement to a Delhi Court.

“Aseemanand’s statement where he had confessed to the terror act was on record, I don’t know why the court did not consider it and acquitted him. I am yet to receive a copy of the judgment and there could be another reasons as well for the acquittal,” Sharma was quoted by the Hindu as saying.

An NIA official told the Hindu that the investigative agency will decide about the appeal after the analysis of court order by a legal team.

In his confession before a magistrate in a Delhi Court, Aseemanand had said that he and others were responsible for the bombing at various places of worship across the country, including Malegaon in Maharashtra in 2006 in which nearly 40 people were killed, Hyderabad’s Mecca Masjid in 2007 and the explosion in the same year on the Samjhauta Express in which nearly 70 passengers were killed.

Aseemand had also confessed to the Caravan Magazine that his terrorist acts were sanctioned by the highest levels of the RSS.

A total number of 13 people were accused in the Ajmer blast case. Three of the accused are absconding and a former RSS pracharak, who was accused in the case, was murdered in December 2007.
