EPFO Diwali Gift for Pensioners: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is planning something for pensioners on this Diwali. The Central Board of Trustees (CBT) will meet in Bengaluru on October 10 and 11, 2025 to discuss raising the minimum monthly pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS-95). the minimum pension is only ₹1,000 per month right now and if the board approves it could go up to ₹2,500 per month. This will be the first increase in 11 years since 2014.

Many retired employees and unions have been asking for a hike for a long time. They say that ₹1,000 per month is too little to live on because prices of food, medicines, and daily items have gone up a lot.
Some unions wanted even higher amounts, like ₹7,500 per month, but reports say that the board may approve a smaller but meaningful increase to ₹2,500. After the CBT decides, the government still has to give the final approval before the pension hike comes into effect.
How to get Pension under EPS-95?
To get a pension under EPS-95 a worker has tocomplete at least 10 years of continuous service and reach the age of 58. If someone leaves the job before 10 years, they can take all the accumulated pension money at once or choose a smaller monthly pension when they retire.
The CBT meeting will also discuss other important things. One of them is EPFO 3.0, a new plan to make EPFO more digital and easy to use. With EPFO 3.0, members may soon withdraw PF directly from ATMs, use UPI for instant money transfer, and settle claims faster online. Death claims and other corrections will also happen online automatically. Big IT companies like Infosys, Wipro, and TCS are helping EPFO make these changes.
