A message has been doing rounds on social media which states that Rs. 2,000 to be discontinued from Dec 31. The message is going viral on WhatsApp months after a different iteration of the same message claimed the discontinuation of the banknote on October 10.
The viral message also states that a new version of Rs 1000 currency notes will soon be introduced after January 1, 2020. The information builds on the information when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) confirmed in reply to an RTI query that it did not print any Rs 2000 note in this current financial year.

Fact Check:
Official information related to discontinuation of notes should come from either from RBI officially or from the government of India. When a reverse check was done, we didn’t come across any such notifications from RBI regarding the same.
Final verdict:
The claim hereby stands FALSE.
