Farmed Salmon in US: Salmon is one of the most eaten fish in the world, but it naturally carries more than 70 parasites. Young salmon live near the coast, where they meet marine mammals that spread these parasites. This is why salmon naturally has so many bugs.
Farmed salmon face other problems too. In fish farms, salmon eat processed feed made from fish meal and chemicals. Farmers also use pesticides and antibiotics to stop disease. Many of these chemicals stay on the fish and can enter humans when they eat it. Workers at farms wear protective suits because the chemicals are strong, but the fish still carry risks for people who eat them.
Wild salmon are very different. They eat natural food and have better nutrition. Farmed salmon usually have more harmful fats and chemicals. They also have more calories. For example, 100 grams of farmed salmon has 212 calories, but wild salmon only has 115. People still eat salmon because it has a lot of Omega-3, which is good for the heart. Some experts suggest eating other fish like sardines. Sardines have Omega-3 too and may be safer.
While concerns around farming practices and contaminants are real, salmon also offers several well-documented health benefits:
President Donald Trump’s new tariffs are making salmon business uncertain in the U.S. The U.S. imports a lot of salmon, mostly from Canada. It also exports wild-caught salmon to countries like China. Both countries said they might fight back with their own tariffs. This could make salmon more expensive and hurt businesses

Fishing communities in Alaska are worried. Alaska sells a lot of salmon to China, and much of it is processed there before coming back to the U.S. Tariffs could make exports smaller and costs higher. Farmers might have to spend more on equipment and labor. Climate change and less support from government agencies like NOAA make it even harder.
