Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have got farm loan waiver ranging from Re 1 to Rs 18. This comes as a rude shock to the farmers as they got a waiver of Re 1, to Rs 1.80, Rs 1.50 and Rs 18. The move comes as the Yogi Adityanath government announced to waiver on loans up to Rs 1 lakh.
According to NDTV, in Etawah, loan of 9,527 farmers worth Rs 58,29,00,000 has been waived but those who received a waiver of Re 1 to Rs 18 felt cheated.
In Hamirpur, loan waiver certificates of Rs 10 and Rs 215 were given during a function held with huge fanfare and presided by state’s labour and employment exchanges minister, Mannu Kori.
Shanti Devi of Umri village got a loan waiver of just Rs 10.37 against a loan of Rs 1.55 lakh.
Kori termed it as a printing error after the farmers raised voice against waiver.“The loan waivers have been given as per rules. If there are discrepancies, we will get it inquired into and act against those responsible,” he said.
Samajwadi Party leader, Naresh Uttam, hit out at the state government over the move. “Rs 10 loan waiver certificate is a cruel joke on farmers”, he tweeted.
On 11 July, the Yogi Adityanath government had presented its first Rs 3,84,659.71 crore budget for 2017-18, making a special provision of Rs 36,000 crore to honour its poll promise of farm loan waiver through debt redemption. The farm loan waiver was a major promise in the BJP’s election manifesto.
