Roger Federer beat Rafael Nadal- 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3- to win his 18th Grand Slam title. It was the 35-year-old Federer’s fifth Australian title, his first Grand Slam major since 2012 Wimbledon.
Federer had lost six of the previous eight Grand Slam finals he’d played against Nadal, and had only previously beaten Nadal in 11 of their 34 matches.
The win made Federer the first player ever to win five titles at three different grand slams and at 35.
