Lottery Worth $36 Million Voided: A Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $36 million has been deemed null and void due to the absence of a claimant. The prize was claimed until February 11, which concluded a claim period of 180 days, as stated by the Florida Lottery.

The winning ticket with the numbers 18-39-42-57-63 was purchased at a Publix in Jacksonville on August 15. 7 was the Mega Ball value, which carried a 3x multiplier.

The ticket is worthless and the winner has forfeited the winnings, according to Michelle Griner, a spokesperson for the Florida Lottery.

The Florida Lottery reports that 80% of the unclaimed ticket proceeds will be transferred to a trust fund designated for educational purposes.

The remaining amount, as specified by the organization, will be contributed to the prize pool.

As per the organization’s website, the recent drawing signified the sole unclaimed Mega Millions jackpot ticket for the year 2023.

Additional substantial amounts that have remained unclaimed in previous years include a $26 million prize in California in 2021 and a Georgia Powerball ticket worth $77 million that was lost in 2011.

All Mega Millions winners are presented with the choice between receiving their winnings in cash or an annual payout.

The cash alternative constitutes a “one-time, lump-sum payment that is equal to all the cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool.” Winners who select a payout are eligible to receive an initial payment in addition to 29 annual payments. As per the Mega Millions website, every payment is “five percent greater in value than its predecessor.”
