Replacing ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,  Pakistan’s parliament will elect his successor on Tuesday.

Pakistan SC on Friday disqualified Sharif for being dishonest and ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal. This made him quit office as the PM.

President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, on Tuesday at 3:00 PM to elect the new leader of the house.

Separately, the National Assembly Secretariat has announced the schedule for the election of the new prime minister.

The brother of ousted PM, Shahbaz Sharif has been lined up to take over as prime minister. The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) anointed Shahbaz but he will first have to be elected to the National Assembly.

Former petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will serve as interim PM.
