Chandigarh: The funeral of Squadron leader Siddharth Vashishta, who died in a helicopter accident in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, took place here on Friday with full military honours. The remains of the officer arrived at the Air Force Station on a service aircraft on Thursday. His body was brought to the cremation ground from his vehicle at Sector 44 here from Air Force Vehicle.

Vashisht’s wife, Aarti who is also a Squadron Leader, paid tribute to her husband before the funeral. Aarti paid homage to her husband in uniform. In the presence of a large number of people, which included various officers paid their tribute to the pilot. A gun salute to also took place.

Siddharth Vashisht, 31-year-old, was a fourth-generation member from his family in the armed forces. He was commissioned in the IAF in 2010 and last month, he received commendation for his role in the rescue operation during the Kerala floods.

A helicopter of the Air Force crashed on Wednesday in Badgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Two pilots of the plane and four other passengers lost their lives in the accident.
