Games of thrones season 8: costumes that played vital role in every season

HBO’s Games of Thrones will air its final season on April 14. The new season will rest all the questions and will tell who will sit on the iron throne. From Daenerys Targaryen to Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow and the Night King, all the prominent characters in this popular series will fight for one last time to achieve the glory and win this battle for the coveted throne.

Apart from the characters, the costumes donned by the characters played an important role in every season. From Daenerys Targaryen’s evolving fashion to Cersei Lannister’s authoritative change, each season had a dedicated range of attires.

As we head to the last chapter, let’s visit back in the time and revive the crucial information that went unnoticed in the character’s costume.

Jon Snow’s cape

Jon snow’s long and heavy cape was a tribute to his father, Ned Stark whom he respected a lot. The costume department kept it occasional and there are times when they removed it because they wanted him to be more vulnerable. Costume designer Michele Clapton to Uproxx Especially I think when he saw Dany, and he went to see her for the first time in her chamber. We decided to remove it, but then when he went to see Cersei, we put it on.”

Royal capes

The capes on the different character were ordinary rugs. In one of the interaction, Clapton was heard narrating how she shops the usual rugs from Ikea and turns them into capes. “Those capes are actually IKEA rugs. We take anything we can; we cut and we shave them and then we added strong leather straps.”

Behind these costumes is a team that made it looked amazing. Clapton said, “We hired breakdown team, consisting of painters and textile artists whose job is to destroy and repair the costumes in order to make them appear to be old and worn, giving them a more realistic feel.”

Sansa Stark’s wedding dress

Clapton told that they have no scope to make a duplicate of any costume as designing it takes time. Since the costume department is needed to focus on detailing, it’s difficult to make copies of the same outfits. So the artists, in fact, are adviced to wear them carefully.

Computer-generated imagery’s role

“We are aware of other departments, such as visual effects. If costumes move too much, they are difficult for them to work with. We all try to work together to achieve the best result we can, said Clapton when asked if she has to keep CGI in mind while designing the attires.
