Four years after a woman accused Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Arun Verma and seven others of gang-raping her, the 21-year-old survivor was found dead near her house on Saturday night. Officials conducting the probe in the case believed that the gangrape survivor was initially poisoned and then strangled.
Arun Verma is a legislator representing the Sultanpur constituency. He was the first applicant to be campaigned by UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for the Uttar Pradesh polls.
However, Verma has denied his connection in the case saying he demands a CBI probe into the matter.
The father of the dead woman said that she had gone to the bathroom around 7 PM on Saturday, but did not return home. When he approached the police, they found her dead body near the area.
Verma’s name was mentioned by the father of the victim in the complaint filed in 2013. However, he was acquitted of all charges as the police probed the case further.
