At a time when the credibility of media houses has been under question for several reasons, a new goof-up has come to the fore, this time a reputed newspaper of south India has apparently tried to defame Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Deccan Herald, in one of its report on the violence that erupted following the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim – has used the photo of main gate (Bab-e-sir-syed) of the university with has nothing even remotely to do with the scuffle.

Had it been human error it would have been get corrected with immediate effect but it has not been done so far. The story was posted online on Friday (25-08-2017) at 5:42 pm and the same photo is still there.

Has it been done intentionally to malign the university reputation or is it just a human error?

Aligarh Muslim University Student Union (AMUSU) President Faizul Hasan has demanded that the publication must issue an apology for defaming the university.

Talking to the Newsd over telephone, Hasan said if editorial department of the DH will not tender an apology, the students’ union will file defamation case against the paper.

He further said that even he has word with  the university PRO, Omar Saleem Peerzada, who has assured him to take legal action against Deccan Herald.
