On Friday, December 7, the government’s appointed Empowered Expert Committee announced its recommendations of adding 19 Institutions to the list of Institutes of Eminence(IoE).
The list suggested includes seven public and 12 private colleges. In the recommendations made by a committee headed by former chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami, following institutions were put forward.

Savithribai Phule Pune University
Andhra University
Aligarh Muslim University
The Banaras Hindu University
Punjab University
Private institutions
Shiv Nadar University, Noida
Azim Premji University, Bengaluru
Ashoka University, Sonepat
O.P. Jindal Global University, Haryana
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore
VIT, Vellore
Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneshwar
Institute of Public Health Sciences, Telangana
114 institutes had in total applied for the status of Eminence. The applications had names of many prestigious central universities, IITs, IIMs, NITs, and IISERs. The list also had candidates in form of state and private universities. The strongholds like Indian Statistical Institute, Indian Statistical Institutes and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Tata Institute of Social Sciences had submitted their applications too.
Earlier, in July this year, six institutes which included 3 private(BITS Pilani, Jio University, Manipal University) and 3 government-run(IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IISc Bangalore) institutions got the tag of Institute of Eminence.
