H-1B Visa Fees Revised: The USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) has proclaimed the hike in fees for immigration applications and the H-1B work visa, which is one of the most widely used visas, this hike will be effective from March 1, 2026, among others.

Premium Processing Fees

The revised fee schedule has brought a very significant alteration, the premium processing fee, a service that most applicants and employers select to shorten the sometimes lengthy adjudication process of visas. Under the new rules, premium processing fees for Form I-129 petitions which includes H-1B visas are set to rise from $2,805 to $2,965, reflecting a roughly $160 increase.

Premium processing allows for faster decision timelines often within 15 to 45 business days compared with the standard processing times that can stretch into several months. Applicants whose requests are postmarked on or after March 1 must include the updated fee, or face rejection of their filing.

H-1B Visa Fees Revised: Other Visa Categories Also Affected

While the H-1B premium processing charge grabs headlines, other categories are also seeing notable rises:

  • Form I-129 Petitions for H-2B or R-1 visas (seasonal workers, religious workers) will go from $1,685 to $1,780.
  • Form I-140 employment-based immigrant petitions, used for many green card applicants, will see fees jump to $2,965 from the previous $2,805.
  • Form I-539, which covers change or extension of status for students and exchange visitors (F, J, M categories), will increase from $1,965 to $2,075.
  • Form I-765 premium processing relevant for employment authorization including OPT and STEM-OPT will rise to $1,780 from $1,685.

Eligibility: Who Can File Form I-907?

H-1B Visa Fees Revised

You can file Form I-907 only when premium processing is available for your specific benefit request. Eligibility depends on the underlying filing.

In general, you may be eligible if:

  • You have a pending or new filing where USCIS allows premium processing.
  • Your underlying case type is listed as eligible on uscis.gov/i-907.
  • You are filing Form I-907 for the correct classification and request type.
  • Your underlying filing is properly signed and filed, or will be filed, in the correct place.

What This Means for Applicants and Employers?

Increasing the H-1B visa costs is an additional challenge for skilled professionals and companies that have to carry out financial planning. Citing project deadlines, job openings, or moving by the company, most of the employers choose premium processing as a means to fast visa decisions even though it is an optional service.

H-1B Visa Fees Revised

The new fee structure has been published and businesses that hire H-1B candidates in the fields of Information Technology, engineering, healthcare, and research will now have to consider the surging fees as part of their budgetary requirements. It is advised that applicants who are going to file or speed up their petitions must check the fee amounts at least once before their submissions to prevent processing delays or mistakes.

Hikes in the Fees: A USCIS Point of View

According to USCIS, the money that will come from these increased costs will be directed back into the agency’s operations. These operations will include enhancements in processing speed, the reduction of backlog, better staffing, and with overall adjudication services.

The legal situation regarding the issuance of H-1B visas through a presidential proclamation in late 2025, which included the imposition of a $100,000 fee for a new application, is also one of the controversies surrounding the matter.
