Happy birthday Anuradha Paudwal: Veteran singer Anuradha Paudwal, whose maternal name is Alka Nadkarni, celebrates her 69th birthday today. Best known for crooning bhajans, Paudwal has a vast amount of work in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Odia, Nepali and Kannada industry.
Anuradha Paudwal has been working in the industry for over four decades, either in movies or simply lending her voice to a song or bhajan. She has also been involved in various humanitarian works – in helping the families of martyred soldiers, to provide electricity to families who cannot afford to pay the bills, and in solving the problem of malnutrition.
The singer’s career and her social work in the Parliament of England, was also recognized in the Indo-British All Party Parliamentary Group in England.
Needless to say, Anuradha Paudwal has been honoured and recognized by the Government of India more than once. She has also been recognized by the State Awards and received one of the highest awards in the country – the Padma Shri.

National Film Awards
Anuradha Paudwal was recognized as the best playback singer (female) by National Film Awards for her song ‘He Ek Reshami’ from the Marathi film ‘Kalat Nakalat’ in 1989.
Odisha State Film Award for Best Singer
Anuradha Paudwal received the Odisha State Film Award for Best Singer twice – once in 1987 for ‘Tunda Baida’ and in 1997 for ‘Khandaei Akhi Re Luha’.
