The veteran actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan will turn a year older on April 9. She will turn 73. Jaya Bachchan was counted amongst one of the best actors during her time.

Her debut in the film industry happened with Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film Mahanagar when she was only 15-years-old. As an adult, her first role was in the 19701-film Guddi which also starred Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance. After that, she went on to become one of the most sought-after actresses of that time.

She was a student of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and was given a tag of flawless actor and famous for her performances in movies like Uphaar, Koshish, Kora Kagaz and many more.

Jaya and Amitabh got married right after his film Zanjeer became a massive hit. In a blog post last year, Amitabh revealed why they got married in a hurry. Amitabh and Jaya were dating in 1973 when they planned to go to London for a vacation. However, his father, poet Harivanshrai Bachchan said they could only go together if they were married.

On the occasion of Jaya Bachchan’s 73 birthday, here is the list of movies by the actor with Amitabh Bachchan together:

Mili (1975):

Hrishikesh Mukherjee directorial and Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Ashok Kumar in the lead. Jaya played the role of Mili Khanna is a girl who suffered from pernicious anemia which is an incurable disease. For this, she won the nomination for best actress Film Fare Award.

Silsila (1981):

Yash Chopra’s one of the most romantic movies. This movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Rekha, Sanjeev Kumar in the lead. Yash Chopra made this movie after inspired by the real-life love triangle between Amitabh-Jaya-Rekha. Yash decided to bring this story from real to reel. Silsila is a cult movie now. the story about the character of Shobha Malhotra, she gets married to Amit (Amitabh Bachchan) and then finds her husband is in love with someone else.

Zanjeer(1973):

Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit and Bindu stars in Zanjeer. The action film released in 1973 bought a whole new trend in Hindi cinema, as per reports. Amitabh played the role of Inspector Vijay Khanna with Jaya as Mala. It was a blockbuster at the box office and became a classic.

Abhimaan(1973):

Released in 1973, Abhimaan is a Hindi musical drama starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Asrani and Bindu. Jaya won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance and the movie was a super hit at the Box Office. It was Amitabh and Jaya’s consecutive second film together.

Chupke Chupke(1975):

A newly wedded husband plays a practical joke on his wife’s family with full support from his wife and friends in Chupke Chupke (1975). It stars Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Om Prakash, Usha Kiran, David Abraham Cheulkar, Asrani and Keshto Mukherjee. Hrishikesh Mukherjee helmed the comedy film.

Sholay(1975):

Considered as one of the best films in India cinema, Sholay released in 1975. Helmed by Ramesh Sippy, it stars Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan and Amjad Khan with others. Amitabh and Jaya were seen hiding their feeling for each other in the movie. It was their third consecutive film with each other in 1975.
