Haryana government’s special task force to taste Biryani

Not sure if it is a serious step or just an attempt to extort free Biryani, the Haryana police is ‘tasting’ or rather testing Biryani to sniff out traces of beef from this delicious preparation.

This seemingly bizarre task just ahead of Bakri Eid, has been given to the police of Mewat, the only Muslim majority district of Haryana. According to the Haryana government’s Gau Sewa Ayog, frequent complaints by the locals, who “suspected the vendors of mixing a little rice with the beef meat to camouflage the illegal meat”, prompted them to take the action.

The police has been instructed to take immediate action against vendors selling beef as the state has the most stringent laws against cow slaughter. A maximum sentence of 10 years is the quantum of punishment for breaking the law. The food and drug administration department has also been involved with the task of examining and preparing the reports at a quick pace.

In a state where the safety of women is a paramount issue, such a decision comes as a shock to locals. Perhaps the next would raiding people’s fridges (sorry, Dadri already witnessed that) in order to determine ‘what’ they eat and ‘what’ they should not eat. Let’s hope that this does not become a trend athwart the entire nation lest more Akhlaqs lose their lives over a piece of ‘meat.’
