After the hearings took place in the petition submitted by Chief Minister of Bihar and Janata Dal (United) party chief Nitish Kumar regarding the Sitaram Singh killing case, the High Court reserved the decision.

The case traces back to 1991’s killing in which Nitish Kumar’s petition was quashed. Kumar is accused of killing a man while returning after voting in the 1991 LokSabha bypoll elections in Barh Lok Sabha constituency in Patna district.

Following the incident, the relative of the deceased Ashok Singh, had registered a case against Nitish Kumar and others. In September 2009, trials began against Kumar. Kumar had filed a petition in Patna High Court to quash the case.

Dhibar village of which Sitaram Singh deceased Congress worker belonged to, falls under the Pandarak police station in Barh. Singh died on November 16, 1991.
