Himachal Pradesh assembly elections to be held on 9 Nov: CEC

The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced that assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh will be held as a single phase on 9 November. The counting of votes will be held on 18 December 2017.

The announcement was made by Chief Election Commissioner, Achal Kumar Jyoti, accompanied by Election Commissioners, Om Prakash Rawat and Sunil Arora. The elections will be conducted by using electronic voting machines (EVMs) with voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT).

Congress is in power in the hill state of Himachal. Almost 49.5 lakh voters will vote in 68 assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh. HP will have 7521 voting centres along with all-women polling stations.  The height of voting cubicle will be amplified, said CEC Achal Kumar Joti. Besides, photo voter IDs will be used.
