Holi is almost here and the excitement for the festival has reached its peak. While the nation celebrates Holika Dahan today i.e on March 20, the festival full of colours and water will be celebrated tomorrow on March 21.
The festive vibe has begun and children have prepared their pichkaaris, colours and water balloons for the festival. But there is one thing that we often forget in the happiness of the festival that the festival is not something that should be celebrated with stray animals or our pets.
It may seem fun but it is far from fun for these animals. Fur animals are affected most as not only children but elder people also indulge in throwing gulaal on the stray dogs.
It is also observed that around the time of Holi, the stray dogs look for shelter to stay away from these celebrations. The colours can have a very toxic effect on their skin. You can go home and clean yourself but these animals have no one to take care and thereby these colours stay for long on their skin.
Not only stray animals but also the pet animals shouldn’t be included in this type of celebration.
Here’s how the Holi colours can affect the skin of animals
- Colours can cause skin allergies and if they are put on animals then they will be left scratching and it can lead to skin rashes to them.
- If the colours enter the eyes of the animals then that can even take away their vision. As the eye is a vital organ, it can cause prolonged irritation if the colours enter the eyes.
- If colours enter the respiratory area of the animals it can lead t breathing problem and other disorders.
- Animals can clean themselves only by licking and if these colours enter their body it can be a slow poison for them.
- Also, the stray animals find their food and water on the streets and if there is colour in the water on the streets then it may enter their bodies and can be very harmful to them.
All these points can result in a problem for not only the animals’ but also for the people. These colours will make the animals irritated and they can end up biting humans. So as we head towards the festival, let’s just keep the celebration to ourselves and our loved ones but not for our furry friends. It is requested to not to involve street animals in the celebration.
