A 25-year-old youth succumbed to his injuries after he was stabbed six times in Hisar town of Haryana in an apparent honor killing case.

Shyam Arora from Punjabi community ran away from his home to marry a Dalit girl, Sapna, against the desires of both the families in January this year. Now, months after their marriage, Sapna’s brother Sahil and maternal uncle Pawan with one more person had gone visit Sapna for the first time.  While Sapna was preparing tea for her relatives, the trio stabbed Shyam.

The doctors found six wounds of stabbing on Shyam’s chest. Sapna also received injuries when she intervened and tried to rescue Shyam. Shyam was admitted to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation officer said Sahil and Pawan had been arrested. “Shyam’s family has alleged that apart from Sahil and Pawan, other family members were also involved in the conspiracy. The investigation is still going on,” officer told Indian Express.

Reportedly, Sahil and Pawan were against this marriage. The couple remained out of town for four months. After that they returned home at Bank Colony in Hisar as his parents did not object.

The suspects during the interrogation told the police that they were determined to kill both of them ever since they tied the knot and were only looking for an opportunity. According to police, they had even brought a pistol. But the pistol did not work that led them to stab Shyam. Post the incident, the accused ran away. Sapna, with the help of neighbors, took her husband to the hospital.
