In a brutal act, a woman was allegedly gangraped and strangled to death in front of her husband who was stabbed by a group of men at Kasganj in Aligarh district on Sunday.
The couple was returning home in a cycle after a holy dip in the river Ganges. They were allegedly attacked by a group of men midway, who dragged the woman into a field and raped her repeatedly before killing her.
Her husband – Sunil Kumar – reportedly tried to fight back but he was stabbed multiple times.
He is undergoing treatment at the Aligarh Medical College Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
A case has been registered against unknown persons under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder).
“We are exploring all possible reasons behind the incidents. He is (victim’s husband) giving contradictory statement. It was learnt that the victim was harassed by her in-laws and husband over dowry,” police sources said.
No one has been arrested so far.
