iBomma Founder Arrested in Hyderabad: In a decisive move against digital piracy, Hyderabad police have arrested Immadhi Ravi, the alleged mastermind behind the controversial piracy website iBomma, after he arrived in Hyderabad from France. It is alleged by the police that Ravi controlled the site’s activities remotely, and to be precise, from the Caribbean Islands he was orchestrating the distribution of a massive volume of pirated Telugu films and OTT content.

As per the data that was available to the police, the iBomma was one of the most ruthless in terms of piracy platforms, mainly for Telugu films. A number of film producers filed complaints against the website, accusing the site of uploading the new releases that in some cases were on or merely after the day of theatrical releases thus they estimated the financial casualties to the industry in millions. The authorities have stated that the piracy unit was very complex, and that it involved the use of servers which were hacked as well as in-theatre recordings.
One of the top cop of Hyderabad, Commissioner C.V. Anand, referred to the gang as being the “multi-billion-rupee piracy economy” of the world that the different countries were interconnected. The freezing of the bank accounts of Ravi was probably the most visible result of the actions that have been taken. Among the bank accounts that have been frozen, there is one that has a reported balance of approximately ₹ 3 crores. It is thought by the police that these are illegal gains from the piracy operation. It is a crucial measure to freezing these accounts as it not only interrupts the financial side of the piracy network but also allows the prevention of illegal money laundering or reinvestment in other unlawful activities.

How the Police Traced Ravi?
The anti-piracy team of the Telugu film industry, together with producers, had been the first to notice the wrongful acts of iBomma and had accordingly complained, which in turn led the cybercrime units to conduct a thorough investigation. For a considerable time, the investigators were following the clues online, the money transfers and the overseas movements of Ravi. They managed to execute their plan successfully when he arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport in Hyderabad, he was arrested soon after.
Ravi’s detention is not the end of the story. In 2025, Hyderabad police filed charges against more than 65 mirror websites including iBomma and “Bappam” which were all linked to movie piracy.
