If not in SC, Ram temple row must be sorted out through discussions: UP Minister

Kolkata, BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Minister S.P. Singh Baghel on Friday claimed that the Ram temple will surely be built in Ayodhya and said if the dispute on the issue is not settled in the Supreme Court, it should be sorted out through mutual discussions among the stakeholders.

“Ram Mandir will surely be built. If the solution does not come out in the Supreme Court, it should be sorted on the basis of majority opinion and the significance of the matter… A matter can be sorted out in two ways. Either though the court’s verdict or through mutual discussions,” Baghel said here on the sidelines of a programme promoting the Kumbh Mela 2019.

“The Supreme Court has previously given its verdict on certain important issues by hearing the arguments even at night. This matter is more significant than some of those issues because people’s emotion is attached to it,” he said.

The apex court on Friday deferred the hearing in the Ayodhya title suit till January 10, stating the bench that will hear a batch of cross petitions challenging the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment on the case will decide the future course of the hearing.

Referring to country’s tradition of making statues and monuments in memory of statesmen, the Minister said it was justified that there should be a temple of Lord Ram at his birthplace in Ayodhya.

“It should be built because whenever any statesmen are born, some monuments have been built in their memory. If Lord Ram was human, his statues would have been built. But as he is God, there should be a temple in his birthplace,” Baghel added.
