India Meteorological Department warns thunderstorm in 14 Odisha districts

India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that Odisha is likely to witness thunderstorm and lightning in 14 of the 30 districts on Thursday, besides heavy rainfall in southern regions of the state in the next 48 hours.

Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur in the 14 districts, the IMD said in its bulletin advising the people in these areas to take shelter in nearby building or other safety locations.

The districts which have been put on alert are Maurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Deogarh, Cuttack, Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput.

Simialrly in another warning, the IMD said that heavy rainfall was likely to occur in one or two places in south Odisha in the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, sources in the Meteorological Centre here said that rainfall has occurred in the districts of Malkangiri, Bolangir, Koraput, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Khurda, and Balasore.
